If you’re an artist who uses Procreate for iOS to create digital drawings, paintings, or graphic design, you know how useful this program can be with brush sets, brush settings, lettering features, and more.

However, there are some features that Procreate alone can’t do. So that means transferring from Procreate to another program like Adobe Photoshop to create the art you illustrate. Or you can edit the pixels.

The authors of Procreate have made this process much easier by allowing you to export Procreate components directly as corresponding Photoshop files. This is much better than using file types like JPEG.

How to export images from Procreate to Photoshop

To effectively edit all parts of the Procreate component in Photoshop, you need to export the Procreate component as a PSD or Photoshop file.

• Click on the wrench icon in the upper right corner to open the Actions menu.
• Click the Sharing tab.
• In the Shared Images section, click on the PSD.
• Your work will be exported as a file of this type.

Next, you’ll need to bring this PSD file into Photoshop from your iPad device (assuming you’re using the desktop version. Otherwise, click the Photoshop app on Procreate’s export screen and it’ll be there.) You can send… artwork.)

To do this on a Mac, you can AirDrop the files to your computer.

You’ll need Dropbox on your iPad and computer. It allows you to share files on both devices.

Once downloaded, follow these steps:

• Export the Procreate image to PSD as above.
• On the last screen that appears, click on the Dropbox app.
• Select the folder to save and click Save.

Now you can go to your desktop and access your PSD files from Dropbox. Save it and follow the steps below.

• Open Photoshop and click File > Open.
• Locate the PSD file you saved and click Open.
• The Procreate PSD file opens in Photoshop and can be edited from there.

The layers you work with in Procreate also appear as PSD files in Photoshop. This makes deleting Procreate images very easy and helps your workflow.

How to import a file into Procreate

In addition to exporting PSD files from Procreate, you can place layers in the program and import them. It doesn’t all have the same features as Photoshop, but you can approach projects the same way. Here’s how to upload your PSD file to Procreate:

• In Photoshop, go to File > Save As and change the File Type to PSD to save your working image as a PSD. Then select Save.
• Open Dropbox on your computer and upload your PSD file from Photoshop.
• Open Dropbox on your iPad. Click on the saved PSD file and click on the three dots in the topmost right corner.
• Click Share > Export File. Then click on the Procreate icon.
• After exporting, open Procreate. Wait for the photos to import. You can click through the gallery.
• Then, you can open it in Procreate and use the same layers as in Photoshop.

This lets you work on projects like digital artwork in Photoshop, making it easier to work on larger projects. You can use Procreate brushes which are not accessible in Photoshop.

Procreate is a great app, but you can use Photoshop and Procreate together to create even higher quality digital art.
