Surveys are a useful tool to gather the opinions of others. With the amount of views that can be collected on social media, Facebook is the place to vote, right?
Facebook’s voting feature seems to have changed over time and can be hard to find. You have created a set of publishing tools for the Facebook Page you manage. However, it is no longer available today.
As of this writing, you can create surveys in groups you own or manage. You can also create a miniature version of your survey when creating your story on mobile.
Let’s take a look at the options so you know where and how to create polls on Facebook.
Conduct surveys in Facebook groups
If you are a member or administrator of a Facebook group, you can create a survey on the Facebook website or mobile app. Also, it’s good to gather opinions from group members who have similar interests.
Create an online survey
- Go to Facebook.com, sign in, and select the Groups tab at the top.
- Group Select the group on the left under Group I manage or Group I join.
- On the group page on the right, you’ll see “Vote” as an option under the “Write” field where you normally post. If so, choose it.
- Otherwise, click the Compose field to open the Compose Message window. Then select the three dots for more options and select Vote.
- Add your question in the article field above.
- Please enter your answer in the options. If you have more than three answers, select the More option to add more. If you change your mind, click the X on the right to remove it.
- Configure the two polling controls by selecting the gear icon to the right of the Add option. You can allow users to select multiple answers, allow all to add options (answers), or allow both.
- Alternatively, choose add-ons to add to your post section such as images, tags, actions, etc.
- To schedule a survey release, select the calendar icon in the bottom right corner, select a date and time, and click Schedule.
- If you haven’t already selected a survey, select Publish when you’re done.
Take a survey on your mobile device
You can create group polls on the Facebook mobile app using the same options as on the web.
- Open the Facebook app on your device, select the Menu tab and select Groups.
- Select the group at the top or tap Groups to select the desired group.
- Select whether your vote appears in the list below the write text box. Otherwise, tap the Write something field and select Vote from the pop-up window at the bottom of the screen.
- Add your question in the question box above.
- Enter the first answer in the Add Vote field. Press Done on your keyboard and enter your answer below. Continue until everything is inserted. If you change your mind about the answer, click the X on the right to remove it.
- Tap the gear icon to the right of the voting field to configure additional voting controls. You can allow users to select multiple answers, allow one person to add options (answers), or both.
- To post your voting schedule, tap Schedule at the top, select a date and time, and then tap Save.
- When you’re done, click Publish or Schedule if you’ve set a date and time.
Conduct surveys of stories
As mentioned above, you can create a small version of a two-response survey for a personal Facebook account or business page you manage by crafting a story. Unfortunately, this option is currently only available in the Facebook mobile apps for Android and iOS, not on the web.
- Open the Facebook app, go to the Home tab, and tap Create Story at the top.
- Select the type of story to create. The voting function works for all types except Text
- Create a story based on the type selected above, but do not publish it yet.
- Tap the sticker icon at the top or right depending on the story type. Select Vote from the list of options on the Stickers tab.
- This will display a field to enter questions with yes and no answers. Enter a question and optionally select Yes or No to use text or emoticons from your keyboard as answer options.
- When you’re done writing your story, tap Finish at the top, then tap Share to Story.
This poll is a little different than what you can create in a multiple choice group, but you can still ask a simple question and get one of two answers from your Facebook friends.
See the survey results
No matter what kind of poll you create and where you create it, you can see the results by looking at the post or story.
For group posts, just look at the voting posts for the number of votes per post. answers and who voted.
Open the story by story and see the results at a glance, or swipe on the story to see the exact number of votes and who voted.
Facebook stories disappear from your news feed after 24 hours. But if you save your story to the archives of your Facebook account, you can still see it when it’s gone.
Now that you know how to create a poll on Facebook, in a group with more than one answer, or in a story with only two answers, it’s time to get some answers!
