Have you ever spent hours creating a Facebook post, decided to wait before publishing it, but couldn’t find the draft you thought you saved? It’s not easy, but we can help.
Learn how Facebook drafts work, where to find them, and how to publish a safe draft when you’re done.
About Facebook Draft
There is a difference between the drafts you save on your Facebook business page and the drafts you save on your personal Facebook profile.
As of this writing, you can only find saved drafts on your Facebook page. You can then edit, publish or delete the draft. This is explained below.
In your personal Facebook profile, you’ll see an option to save your post as a draft if you don’t want to post it right away. However, there is no central repository for these sketches like a Facebook page.
With all this in mind, let’s start with how you can find Facebook sketches for your personal profile.
Find Facebook sketches for your personal profile
After creating a message and closing it before sending, you will be given the option to save your draft as shown below.
To go back to the draft, open Facebook again and select the What you think box in the news feed where you usually start writing messages. Your saved “draft” will appear in the box waiting to be published. Click Publish to publish.
It works the same whether you’re using Facebook on the web or Facebook on the mobile app, but there are some caveats to this cumbersome process.
- When you save Facebook drafts to your device, they don’t sync with other devices or web apps. Here is the draft saved online and the draft saved in the iPhone Facebook app.
- Saved drafts are valid until you create a new message. This means that if you view and edit sketches or restart, your original saved sketches are gone forever.
- As mentioned earlier, Facebook does not have a central location for private sketches. If you want to keep the draft but want to post another post in the meantime, this is not possible at the moment.
Find Facebook sketches on the web
Sketches you save to Facebook pages work quite differently. Even if you have many drafts, you can manage them all in one place. You can then send, edit or delete the saved draft.
You can find the draft on my Facebook page.
- From the Facebook home screen, select Pages on the left.
- If there are multiple pages, select a page.
- After that, you will be redirected to Meta Business Suite and the page will be centralized. On the left, expand the MetaBusiness Suite section and select Publishing Tools.
- At the top of the next screen, select Draft. A list of all saved sketches will appear.
Alternatively, you can go directly to the Meta Business Suite website.
- If you have more than one, select a page in the upper left corner.
- The Reminders section of the page displays a list of currently saved drafts. You can choose which nature you want to deal with here. If you don’t see this part, continue to the next step.
- Select Messages and stories on the left.
- Select the Drafts tab at the top of the next page. A list of saved sketches will appear.
View and edit drafts
Select a sketch to open it for viewing and editing. Make the changes in the text box in the left column. A message appears on the right.
When you’re done, do one of the following:
- Click Save to save your changes to the draft.
- Use the arrow next to the Save button and select Publish Now or Schedule Publish.
- Select Cancel to discard the changes.
Publish, distribute, or delete a project
To quickly publish, rate, or delete designs, hover over a design in the list and select the three dots. Then select one of the options.
Create a new project
You can also write a new post and save it as an online draft. Select “Create Post” in the top right corner.
Write a message including a photo or video on the left, if desired. When finished, select Save as Project and select Save.
Find your Facebook page design on the mobile app
To manage your Facebook page design from your mobile device, you can use the Meta Business Suite app.
Open the app and select the Flights tab. Click on the dropdown button posted in the top left corner and select the design. You will see a list of all saved post designs.
Select a design to review and edit. Make your changes and click Next. You can then select ‘Publish Now’, ‘Schedule Later’ or ‘Save as Draft’. Click Save.
To quickly upload, distribute, or delete your design, click the three dots on the right and select an option.
To create and save a new design, click the plus sign at the bottom and select Publish or select Build at the top. Compose your message and include any other elements you like. Select Save as Draft and click Save as Draft at the top.
If you don’t have the Meta Business Suite app, you can download it for free on Android and iOS to manage your Facebook page and schedule linked Instagram accounts.
Want to use Facebook Design?
It would be great if Facebook could save multiple post drafts for individual accounts. So at least you can view, edit and share the last saved post. You can create many designs for your Facebook page and post or organize as many as you like.
